Task Descriptions

Coatcheck

Charge $1 per item
Take a ticket and give one half to the guest
Remind them not to loose their ticket
Take the other half and tape it to a hanger
If it’s a bag, tape the ticket to the bag and put it neatly in the corner
Start at one end of the rack and move down as the evening continues, putting the coats in order
All tips and dollars go to the house
NOBODY is allowed in coatcheck except volunteers.
If you cant find someone’s coat you can let ONE person in, but as soon as their coat is found they are out.

Bar

Only use plastic cups. Tell people to look after their cups and bring them back for their next drink
If anyone goes anywhere near our tiki mugs or glasses chop their hand off
Don’t serve really drunk people
This bar is BYO. If someone doesn’t have their own booze tell them that the liquor store is on the corner of Mission and 21st.
Write their name on a piece of tape and stick it to their bottle.
Give them their bottle, but let them pour the drink themselves
NEVER pour a drink for someone. This is illegal. Don’t take tips
Only serve the marked bottles to the people who know the name on it
Ask someone to help taking out the trash when it gets full. Take it out behind the building to the parking lot and pile it NEATLY in the corner to the right. Keep recycling and trash separate.

Single Guys need to show you a license to get in

Top Door Charter

Show the Charter to every single person who enters- even regulars
Make eye contact with them and go through the points on the charter
Invite them to agree verbally to abide by the rules
If they refuse, or don’t slow down don’t let them in.

Security 10-12 and 12-2

You are on the BOTTOM DOOR.
Stand downstairs inside the gate.
Be as discrete as possible- don’t make a lot of noise, don’t stand outside in the street, and don’t open the gate unless you have to.
We want to avoid having people come in off the street- so always ask “what are you here for?”
We have a STRICT dresscode. NEVER let anyone in wearing jeans, khaki or sportswear unless it is intentionally part of a ‘look’ If they are obviously not ‘one of us’ then just say IT’S A PRIVATE PARTY. Single Guys need to show you a license to get in
If the police come, say that it’s a private party. Never mention any names. Don’t let them in.
Get someone to call for Scott

Security  2-4

You are on the TOP DOOR. Your job is very easy, but very important. When people leave say goodbye and make sure they don’t let anyone in when they leave. If the bell rings, go down and see who it is. If its someone who has already been in, let them back in. If it’s a new person, make a decision about whether or not to let them in. If they are sloppy drunk/ pushy/ attitude etc. tell them the party is over. If they are a regular and you recognize them and they are nice then let them in. Holding a tight gate at this time of night is essential.

Walkaround Host

You are the eyes and ears of the event. WALK AROUND!
If you see a newbie, offer to take them on a tour of Mission Control. Engage people in conversations about Kinky Salon and why you come here, but never stay in one place for too long. Ask Polly and Scott what they need. If a volunteer doesn’t show up for their shift, be prepared to cover any job that needs to be done.
If you see that something needs doing- dooo it! Clean up spills, pick up empty bottles, empty ashtrays etc.
Take out the trash! Clean the bathroom! (this one is especially important later in the night)
Check in on the other volunteers and make sure people are happy. Just say “Hey there, I am the walkaround host tonight, How are you doing? if you need anything just let me know.” Dont forget to check in on the bottom door security too.
If you see any infractions of the charter, or if one is reported to you, do your best to deal with it.
SMILE. You are not the police. Take note of exactly who is involved. If its someone you don’t know, find out who they are.
Always report things to Scott or Polly.
The worst thing you can do is abuse this position and see it as the ‘easy task’. This is the *most* important job, so please take it seriously!!
